1. Wat was het beste boek van 2015?
Ik koop zelden boeken tijdens het eerste publicatiejaar. Ik ga dus voor enkele 'oudjes' zoals Open stad (over wandelen, steden en wandelen in steden) van Teju Cole, Een makelaar in Pruisen (over kijken, kunst en kijken naar kunst) van Nicole Montagne, Wanderlust (over wandelen en verdwalen en wandelend verdwalen) en The Faraway Nearby (over het vertellen, verweven en ontrafelen van verhalen) van Rebecca Solnit.

De recentste poëziebundels van Maud Vanhauwaert en Y. Né gaven me vleugels. Wij zijn evenwijdig en De werkelijkheid houdt het lang vol bewijzen dat bevlogen poëzie ontzettend grappig kan zijn.

3. Welk boek staat voor u bij uitstek voor het goede leven?
Stil de tijd, een essaybundel van Joke. J. Hermsen. Het boek verbreedde mijn blik op het begrip tijd. Hermsen formuleert haarscherp wat iedereen diep vanbinnen al wist, maar waartoe niemand tot dan toe in staat bleek om er een boek over te schrijven. Doorheen de essays stelt ze dat de omnipresente opgelegde kloktijd slechts een van de vele manieren is om tijd te beleven. Aan de hand van het werk van Levinas, Bergson, Sloterdijk, Bloch en Bachmann maakt ze de lezer warm voor een andere, innerlijke tijdsbeleving.

The usual I we are given has all the tidy containment of the kind of character the realist novel specializes in and none of the porousness of our every waking moment, the loose threads, the strange dreams, the forgettings and misrememberings, the portion of a life lived through others' stories, the incoherence and inconsistency, the pantheon of dei ex machina and the companionability of ghosts. The are other ways of telling.
